19-2 and This Life Nominated in the Best Dramatic Series Category for the 2017 CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS

19-2 and THIS LIFE earn a total of 12 nominations for the awards gala

Montreal, January 17, 2017 • The list of nominees for the upcoming CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS was simultaneously unveiled in Toronto and Montreal this morning. Montreal production company Sphere Media Plus is proud to announce that two of its original productions, 19-2 and This Life, have been nominated in the Best Dramatic Series category. The two series are also in the running in the following categories, for a total of 12 nominations:

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS are handed out each year in recognition of excellence in film, television and digital media. The 2017 awards gala will be broadcast live on CBC television on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at 8:00 PM.

“I am delighted and proud that two of our series have been singled out in the Best Series category for the CSAs. Congratulations to showrunners Bruce M. Smith (19-2) and Joseph Kay (This Life), and to the talented teams that have made these series so successful,” said Jocelyn Deschênes, producer and founding president at Sphère Média Plus.


Last year, 19-2 won CSAs in the categories of Best Dramatic Series (Jocelyn Deschênes, Luc Châtelain, Bruce M. Smith, Virginia Rankin, Greg Phillips, Saralo MacGregor, Jesse McKeown), Best Direction in a Dramatic Series (PODZ), and Best Achievement in Casting (Robin D. Cook, Andrea Kenyon, Randi Wells, Marissa Richmond). In 2015, Jared Keeso (Ben) won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role. The critically-acclaimed series was also honoured with a 2016 International Emmy Award nomination in the Best Dramatic Series category. The fourth and final season, shot last autumn in Montreal, starring Adrian Holmes and Jared Keeso, will air on Bravo in 2017. Seasons 1 and 2 are now available on CraveTV.

This Life was honoured at the 2016 Leo Awards, where Lauren Lee Smith (Maggie Lawson) won the award for Best Supporting Performance by a Female, Dramatic Series. Torri Higginson was nominated at the Toronto ACTRA Awards gala in the Outstanding Performance Female category for her performance as Natalie Lawson, and Stephanie Janusauskas was nominated for a Young Artist Award in the category of Best Performance in a TV Series, Recurring Young Actress, for her portrayal of Emma Lawson-Crowley. Season 2 of this series, adapted from the French-language series Nouvelle Adresse, aired last fall on CBC television.
