Jocelyn Deschênes

Producer and Founding President

A well-known and influential figure on the television scene since 1988, Jocelyn Deschênes founded Sphère Média Plus in 1997. At the helm of this prolific production company, Jocelyn Deschênes has shown an undeniable gift for spotting talent and an intuitive ability to identify inspirational subjects. A passionate producer, always on the lookout for new series ideas, Jocelyn Deschênes is continually developing projects for the Quebec, Canadian and international television markets, as demonstrated by the English adaptations of four major French-language series, including Nouvelle adresse (This Life) and 19-2. The pilot episode of Isabel (adapted from Le Monde de Charlotte), shot for the NBC network in the United States, confirms Jocelyn Deschênes’s status as an outstanding producer in the television field.

Over the years, he has received 50 Best Series nominations at the Gémeaux Awards, winning the statuette 15 times since 2002; and he received his first Canadian Screen Award for 19-2 in 2016. In addition, the actors and creators working on his productions have won more than 120 Gémeaux Awards. His production company, based in Montreal and Toronto, has produced no fewer than 25 primetime series, airing on ICI Radio-Canada, TVA, Séries + (Corus Média), CBC, Bravo (Bell Media) and CTV.

Jocelyn Deschênes has always been committed to the advancement of the television industry. He has, among other contributions, sat on the board of the Quebec Association of Media Producers (AQPM), participating in the New Rights Economy and Collective Bargaining committees. He has also served as a board member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT). Dedicated to the cultural development of his home region, Jocelyn Deschênes sits on the board of the Théâtre de la Ville de Longueuil.

Before founding SPHÈRE MÉDIA PLUS, Jocelyn Deschênes worked for the TVA network, first as director of acquisitions, then as director of external production and director of dramatic programming. He was subsequently Vice President, Development and Production, at Productions Claude Héroux, where he worked as an associate producer on several series.

Sophie Pellerin

Producer and Executive Vice President

The Quebec television industry has relied on the exceptional and unfailing contributions of Sophie Pellerin since 1990. A partner at Sphère Média Plus since 2004, she became Executive Vice President in 2013, consolidating her influence on dramatic content and on the over-all operations of the firm.

Before coming to Sphère Média Plus, Sophie worked at TVA, where she successively occupied the posts of director of variety and magazine programs, general programming director, and vice president in charge of programming.

An experienced and highly-respected producer, she is brilliantly gifted, drawing on solid experience in all facets of production. Creating strong bonds with writers and creators, she has overseen numerous projects that went on to become audience favourites, including such notable shows as Annie et ses hommes, Les hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin, Mauvais karma and Toute la vérité. More recently, she has been a key contributor to the critical and commercial success of series like 19-2, Nouvelle adresse and L’Imposteur.

Josée Vallée

Vice President, Business Development
and Executive Producer

Respected long-time producer Josée Vallée is well-known for her significant contribution to the evolution of Quebec television. Having headed Cirrus Communications for nearly 20 years, she was also president of Attraction Images, the production company formed by the merger of Cirrus Communications, Bubbles Television and La Boîte de Prod. During this period, she put her stamp on nearly sixty productions. Notable series like La Galère, Tout sut moi, La Vie, la vie, Nos Étés, La Vie parfaite and Naked Josh; feature films like Amsterdam and Une vie qui commence; and the TV movie Still Life all testify to the success of her career as a producer – a career marked by bold, prize-winning projects. Her vision of digital media and alternative platforms also helped her blaze new trails. Her achievements in these areas include ancillary websites to existing series (Tout sur moi), convergent productions (Urbania, Montréal en 12 lieux) and various original-content productions created specifically for new media.

Josée joined the Sphère Média Plus team in 2014 as VP, Business Development, and executive producer. Since coming aboard, she has worked on the series Mémoires vives, Mirador, This Life, 19-2 (English version), L’Imposteur and Trop.

Sylvie Gaudreault

Producer

Before becoming a producer at Sphère Média Plus in 2011, Sylvie Gaudreault worked on the conception and artistic direction of television events. She participated in the creation of numerous cultural, literary and variety programs, working as a content producer, chief researcher and researcher. She was also responsible for assignments in the culture section of the news department at the Radio-Canada network; and she worked as a journalist and interviewer.

Sylvie subsequently occupied the posts of associate director and then director of internal production and magazine programs at TVA. Later named director of dramatic and documentary programs, she oversaw the development and production of dramatic and documentary series at the network.

Today, Sylvie develops and produces series at Sphère Média Plus while maintaining solid relationships with writers and creators. Among the hit TV series to which she has contributed are Mauvais karma, Toute la vérité and Mémoires vives. Sylvie is also working on the development and production of the series Trop.

Virginia Rankin

Executive Producer

Virginia Rankin is the executive producer on English-language productions for SPHÈRE MÉDIA PLUS. She runs the Toronto office and oversees development of new projects for the Canadian and international markets.

For Sphere, Virginia has executive produced two seasons of the English adaptation of Nouvelle Adresse entitled This Life, which is nominated for Best Series at the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards. As well, she has completed four seasons of Bell/Bravo’s most highly-rated original drama series 19-2, winner of the 2016 Canadian Screen Award for Best Dramatic Series and nominated for an International Emmy for Best Drama Series in 2016. Virginia recently completed Bad Blood, a mini-series co-produced with New Metric Media, for Rogers/CityTV, based on the life of notorious Montreal mafia boss, Vito Rizutto.

Previously, Virginia was Executive Creative Consultant on Flashpoint (CTV/CBS/ION), and Consulting Producer on Hard Rock Medical (TVO/APTN). Virginia has developed projects with CBC, CTV/Bell Media, Shaw Media, Rogers/CityTV, APTN, Fox Television Studios and EntertainmentOne. She has supervised over 300 hours of broadcast television as a producer and production executive.

She has a BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts (Film Production) and has trained professionally at the Canadian Film Centre’s Prime Time Television Writing Program.
