DATSIT Sphere acquires BGM
DATSIT SPHERE, Quebec’s most prominent television and film content creation, adaptation, production and distribution company has completed the acquisition today of factual and kids production company BGM (formely Bristow Global Media) from the Kew Media Group Inc., subject to customary closing conditions.
The acquisition of BGM by DATSIT SPHERE, best known for primetime drama and comedy, Transplant, 19-2, Rumours and This Life, represents its first foray into English language factual entertainment and a clear signal of its ambition and expansion into the global market.
DATSIT SPHERE is a well-known and respected production company working in Quebec’s audiovisual sector for over 35 years with well established Montreal and Toronto offices. Bruno Dubé, president and CEO of DATSIT SPHERE said: ‘our strategy for some time has been to create a completely diverse talented network of creatives. We have carefully over time become a home for excellence in all genres; animation, unscripted, documentary, fiction, distribution and feature film. BGM was formed in 2013 to create multi-genre, multiplatform content and is now headed by new CEO Marlo Miazga after founder Julie Bristow left the company in November of last year. BGM has subsequently grown into a global entertainment company with a wide range of productions and an international reputation for premium factual content including Haunted Hospitals and Paranormal 9-1-1 and the upcoming Paranormal Nighshift. On the kids front BGM is the producer of Backyard Beats and Gabby’s Farm.
Miazga joined BGM Inc as vice-president of content in 2016, since then she has helped deliver a diverse slate of high-end productions, including acclaimed documentary format The Story of Us and drama-documentary 100 Days To Victory, co-produced by BBC Scotland, Foxtel and History Canada.
